Barry & Holly Tashian
Incredible artists, and truly two of the nicest people I know, Barry & Holly harmonize like angels and pick like the devil. They have recorded with Charlie Louvin, Nanci Griffith, Iris DeMent, Suzy Bogguss, and Delia Bell. Barry's band, The Remains, opened for the Beatles on their 1966 U.S. tour, and he played in Emmy Lou Harris' Hot Band from 1980-1989. Some of my sweetest memories of Nashville are sitting around their kitchen playing music. Check them out and buy a CD at: www.tashianmusic.com
Gary Nicholson
Gary is one of the great songwriters of our time, with many top ten hits and several #1 songs. His walls are covered with gold and platinum records; he has had well over 350 recordings of his songs, by artists as diverse as BB King, Willie Nelson, The Dixie Chicks, and Stevie Nicks; his co-writing credits include Ringo Starr, John Prine, and Harlan Howard - and trust me: this barely scratches the surface. He has produced and played on records for Wynonna and Delbert McClinton and many more...and he is a great person and a dear friend. O.V. Michaelsen
Here's some links to a friend of mine who is a singer, a songwriter, a very good guitarist, but what really distinguishes him is his unparalleled way with words: palindromes, anagrams, limericks, oxymorons: unbridled clever word play run wild - not to mention some very fun songs. He is an author of several books on just this play with words. Here's a couple of sites that feature a bit of his handiwork, with more to come, I'm hopin': http://www.isound.com/ov_michaelsen_singer_songwriter_guitarist_aut
Country Joe McDonald
What can I say? Without a doubt, Joe is one of the sweetest people I've ever met in the music business. One who ascended to iconic status with his unforgettable appearance in the movie Woodstock, he wasn't too busy or too famous to come and sit in with me and the band when we invited. He has generously returned the favor by including me in important events that he has produced, and kept me entertained endlessly with his wry, dry wit. He is a man of constant, calm good will, who really walks his talk. He was my musical hero back in the sixties; today he is a personal hero of mine. I am proud to call him my friend.
